CHÂTEAU LA GRANGÈRE

SAINT-ÉMILION GRAND CRU

2014 Vintage  :

Available 05/2016.

Following an unprecedentedly mild winter, the 2014 growing season began 10 to 15 days ahead of schedule.   A particularly wet spring, with more favourable conditions around mid-June, allowed for a relatively homogenous flowering period.

From mid-May onwards a cycle that was to characterise the season set in: storms with intermittent showers, hail and unstable conditions right up to the end of September, but luckily with a salutary pause for part of September. Humidity and low temperatures favour mildew, and relentless work and vigilance were needed to maintain balance and healthy conditions in the vines.  A glorious Indian summer lasted through October with sporadic and very localised episodes of hail and stormy outbreaks.

This miraculous stretch of good weather created concentration in the grapes and allowed progressive ripening of the tannins contained in the skins and the pips.  We can already anticipate a magnificent aromatic complexity to come.

Tasting Notes Château La Grangère 2014

89/90 Suckling

Blackcurrant on the lovely fresh fruity nose with blackberry and raspberry.  Wonderfully smooth, subtle palate with velvety tannins and superb freshness.  A floral, elegant and complex wine.
